Throughout 2012, Wheatley Plastics has been hosting a number of fundraising events to help support the Charity, ‘When You Wish Upon A Star.’
While Queen Elizabeth was still a princess, Albert Wheatley met an engineering friend who as looking for a manufacturer of buttons for a raincoat that was about to be marketed. Mr Wheatley thought he could do the job. He won the work, created the moulds, bought the machinery and, in 1952, began button production in the garage of his house at Heaton Moor, Stockport. Stockport based plastic injection moulder, Wheatley Plastics, has helped to bring the 1960’s iconic children’s toy, PlayPlax, back in to production.
Invented by Patrick Rylands in 1966 and consisting of 48 interlocking, vibrantly coloured squares, this hugely popular toy sold more than a million copies until it ceased production in the early 1980’s. Continue reading
For a number of years Wheatley Plastics has worked in close partnership with NVQ assessors from North Lancs Training Group to provide learning opportunities in training modules for manufacturing, warehousing and team leading staff.
