CHALLENGE

Elcometer’s existing plastic moulding supplier ceased trading at short notice and a new supplier was required to take over the manufacture of its 456 Case instrument. The instrument is a hand held device used in the aerospace and automotive industry and a high level of cosmetic finish was critical.

SOLUTION

Wheatley Plastics was selected to take over the production of the instrument from the existing supplier. To ensure that Elcometer’s production was not impacted, Wheatley Plastics needed to work to tight timescales. It initially refurbished the tools, addressing and repairing any faults on the mouldings before producing the first samples for Elcometer.

Wheatley Plastics then undertook extensive trialling with Elcometer to ensure that the necessary high quality standards and finish were met, enabling Elcometer to approve production within 4 weeks.

OUTCOME

Wheatley Plastics’ quick turnaround and high standards of quality ensured that Elcometer could maintain production of the instrument to a consistently high standard.
