Q&A with Steve Gill on his promotion to Senior Production Leader

steve gill senior production leader

We recently sat down with Senior Production Leader at Wheatley Plastics Steve Gill to discuss his new role, as well as his journey within Wheatley Plastics.

Q1. Steve, congratulations on your new role as Senior Production Leader. What does your new role involve?

My role as Senior Production Leader is to oversee all aspects of the production floor from Technicians loading tools, to Operators inspecting and packing product. My role also includes supervising any areas of training the production staff might need.

Q2. What attracted you to this role particularly with Wheatley Plastics?

I started at Wheatley Plastics as an agency worker. I was then taken on full time and promoted to team leader. There isn’t much I don’t know about the production floor and the operators on all shifts. I was excited by the thought of how my experience can help Wheatley Plastics achieve its world class manufacturing goals.

Q3. How many years have you been with Wheatley Plastics now?

I’ve been with Wheatley for 4 years now, nearly 3 of those as a team leader.

Q4. What are the biggest challenges of the new role, I imagine no two days are the same working for such an expanding company?

No two days are the same that’s very true, but I kind of enjoy the challenges that brings. I think it would be a very boring life if everything ran smoothly, that’s how I see things, but I might be on my own in that!

Q5. How important do you see upskilling of people in the manufacturing industry?

There is nothing better for me than seeing someone progress in our workplace, to see the enthusiasm pour out of them. It’s also important that whoever comes to work for you can see there is an opportunity for progression and that hard work and dedication pays off.

Q6. Lastly what do you most enjoy about your new role so far and working at Wheatley Plastics?

I love learning from the people around me who have been working at a higher level for some time. I learn something new every day. As far as working at Wheatley Plastics, I’ve said it before when describing my workplace to people, we are like a family, everyone no matter what shift or area of the factory they work in, we all look after each other which creates a lovely environment to work in.
