Today we chat with Wheatley’s new Production Manager, Dimitris Akmentins.
Q. Firstly, congratulations Dimitris on your new role! How long have you been at Wheatley Plastics?
A. Thank you, I joined Wheatley Plastics 3 years ago in October 2021 as an injection moulding technician and was trying to do my best to make the company successful and efficient in that department. I was offered an Interim Production Manager role in April this year which became permanent in September.
Q. What does your role as Production Manager involve?
A. The role involves a lot of communication as it is important to bond the different departments together to achieve the best possible performance. Our aim is to deliver the highest quality products to our customers on time, every time.
Q. What attracted you to Wheatley Plastics?
A. The answer to this will be the people, ever since my first interview I felt welcomed and appreciated and part of the team.
Q. What are the biggest challenges of the role? I imagine production capacity, resource, raw materials, quality are all factors to consider?
A. Our focus will always be customer satisfaction, so the biggest challenges besides the factors you mentioned are constantly improving our standards in all departments in our journey to world class manufacturing.
Q. Wheatley Plastics is known for its investment in new equipment to achieve World Class Manufacturing. How important is this commitment to stay productively efficient and competitive?
A. It is extremely important. To remain competitive and productively efficient in the challenging injection moulding business it is crucial to continually invest in the latest state-of-the-art equipment. I can’t give enough praise to our MD, Gary Knight, and the Board at Wheatley Plastics, as they are not looking for immediate benefits but are constantly investing in machinery, automation and ancillary equipment to secure the company’s future and success.
Q. Customer Focus is a priority for every World Class Manufacturing business, why do you believe Wheatley is so good at this, what sets you aside from the competition?
A.I think our customers value our flexibility, responsiveness, and commitment to delivering high quality products at a competitive price when they need them.
Q. Wheatley Plastics has such a dedicated team, how important is teamwork in achieving production success?
A. In my view it is part of our core values at Wheatley Plastics. We are committed to building excellent relationships not only with customers and suppliers but also within our team, even in our hiring process the personality of candidates is one of the most important factors.
Q. Finally, what are you most looking forward to in the future at Wheatley Plastics?
A.I am looking forward to seeing continued company growth, and my personal development within the team in our journey as a World Class Manufacturer.
