Q&A with Pedro Santiago, QESH Manager at Wheatley Plastics


We sit down with Pedro Santiago, newly appointed QESH Manager at Wheatley Plastics to ask about his new role and his time at Wheatley Plastics.
Congratulations on your new role QESH Manager (Quality, Environmental, Safety & Health) What does your new role involve?
Thanks! My role as QESH manager at Wheatley Plastics can be very diverse, from ensuring the overall quality of the manufactured products to ensuring company compliance to current standards, accreditations, and customer requirements. I actively support and contribute to the wide range of continuous improvement activities currently under development at Wheatley’s. I support/coordinate problem solving activities, help in developing systems to improve company processes, plus help developing SWOP’s and training sessions. From a Health & Safety perspective, and with the support of all the team, I’m focusing on making Wheatley Plastics a safe working environment for everyone from workers to visitors or contractors, as safety should always come first. In the Environmental subject, we are committed in being environmentally conscious in all areas, and due to this commitment, we will kick off numerous activities to achieve and comply with Environmental standards. As I’ve mentioned it can be very diverse and definitely not limited only to the above.
What attracted you to this role with Wheatley Plastics?
For me it is great to be able to contribute and support Wheatley Plastics on the path to achieve the world class manufacturing status.
What are the biggest challenges of the new role, I imagine no two days are the same working in such a fast-paced sector?
You are absolutely right, no two days are the same but everywhere where I worked, I’ve always welcomed a good challenge. Good challenges help me to keep the focus, to continuously look for areas and opportunities for improvement.
Wheatley Plastics is known for its high quality and investment in new equipment. How important is this commitment to stay ahead of the competition?
It is massive, we all know that the industry and technologies are constantly evolving for that reason Wheatley Plastics commitment it is massively important, not only to improve productivity and to be competitive but for doing it so in a safer, efficient, and competitive manner.
Lastly what do you most enjoy about your new job so far.
More than about my job specifically, working at Wheatley Plastics in general has been a delight so far, everyone is so nice and polite, always willing to help, ear and try my new ideas. I quickly came to realise that Wheatley Plastics really seems like a family as we all look after each other.
