Wheatley Plastics invests in Training and Development

Michal Sekula passes his course

As part of Wheatley Plastics’ continued commitment to Training and Development of its team they have registered two of its employees (Luke Timblin and Michal Sekula) with the PTIC (Polymer Training & Innovation Centre) on a 3-year Level 3 Science & Manufacturing Technician Apprenticeship.

The PTIC is owned by the City of Wolverhampton College and as part of the overall qualification, both Luke and Michal will each attend 10 different 5-day blocks of technical study spread over 15 – 18 months at the dedicated training centre in Telford. The course will cover the following topics –

Health & Safety – IOSH Managing Safely

Polymer Materials

Injection Moulding Technology – level 2

Safe Mould Change Procedures

Extrusion Technology – Pipes, Tubes, Film and Sheet

Blow Moulding Technology

Thermoforming Technology

Quality, Lean Manufacturing & Engineering Principles

Injection Moulding Technology – level 3

Luke and Michal will also be required to submit 5 knowledge-based assignments on some of the above topics and to complete injection moulding practical assessments and an external examination together with Maths and English Functional Skills studies. Once all of the above has been completed, they will then need to gather evidence for presentation at an End Point Assessment completed by an independent third-party organisation.

The aim of the qualification is to develop a well-rounded polymer processing technician who can take on a lead role within an organisation having the skills and knowledge required to do so.

Gary Knight, Managing Director at Wheatley Plastics comments “Wheatley Plastics is on the path to achieving world class manufacturing status and we are totally committed to the development of our team. Polymer Training & Innovation has been instrumental in providing excellent training over the years to our growing team and we are very excited for Luke and Michael as they embark on this exciting skills journey.”

Stephen Harratt, Account Manager at PITC comments “Luke and Michal have applied themselves very well to date during their BRW’s already completed and we look forward to continuing this journey with them both. This is the first time Wheatley Plastics has made use of this particular staff development product, but PTIC has worked with Wheatley over the past 25 years in developing the technical knowledge of its other employees through the use of our short duration technical training courses.”
